Under The Abolition of the Right to Buy and Associated Rights (Wales) Act 2018, the right of council and housing associations contract-holders to buy or acquire their home ended on 26th January 2019.
Other Ways to Buy a home
The council runs an Assisted Home Ownership scheme which enables first time buyers to purchase a home on the open market. The scheme is open to everyone who lives or works on Cardiff, not just council or housing association tenants. Under the scheme, the Council retains a percentage of the property, however, no rent is paid.
