What is Rent Smart Wales?

Under the Housing (Wales) Act 2014, there are new legal obligations on landlords who have rental property in Wales. Rent Smart Wales is a service within Cardiff Council, set up to administer the requirements for landlord registration and agent and landlord licensing under the Housing (Wales) Act 2014.

Any landlord who has a rental property in Wales which is rented on an assured, assured shorthold or regulated tenancy is required to register. All registrations are done with Rent Smart Wales.

Landlords who undertake letting and management tasks at their rental properties in Wales (often described as 'self-managing' landlords) are also required to apply for a licence.
